The index shows how exports and imports of individual countries or group of countries are concentrated on several products or otherwise distributed in a more homogeneous manner among a series of products.
Comparative diversification indices of merchandise exports and imports compare countries' trade structures indicating whether a trade structure of two economies are similar or not. It is computed by measuring absolute deviation of product shares among countries.
The data cover the period 1995-2012 for more than 120 economic/trade groups and over 175 economies.The data are updated twice a year: in June and October.
