The event will explore policy and financing options that leverage trade, investment, and de-risk investment in climate mitigation and adaptation. Identifying feasible solutions alongside private sector and partners, is critical for strengthening the trade, investment, green industrialization, and climate action links.
Trade and investment are key enablers of sustainable development. They support domestic and international resource mobilization and improve the accessibility of developing and least developed countries to climate-related goods, services, and technology. Together, they have the capacity to accelerate green industrialization and the implementation of climate plans.
However, investment in adaptation, including in sustainable infrastructure, continues to lag, making green industrialization more challenging. In particular, the lack of financing has left hard-to-abate sectors behind in green transformation. There is a pressing need to identify feasible solutions to unlock financing for market development and adaptation. Furthermore, the increasing adoption of trade-related climate measures has the potential to affect the competitiveness of developing countries and their access to international markets. This calls for policies that support inclusive economic transformation and sustainability.
The event will bring together policymakers, investors, SMEs, other stakeholders, and partners to showcase solutions that strengthen market access and sustainable production, integrate environmental impact assessment into trade agreements, mobilize investment in resilient infrastructure, and deliver adaptation at scale.
