In an increasingly fragmented global trade landscape, the role of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the participation of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) are more critical than ever. This workshop, titled “LDCs in a Fractioned Trading World: Why WTO Matters More Than Ever and How to Best Prepare an LDC Agenda for MC14,” will explore the strategic positioning of LDCs in shaping the multilateral trading system and preparing their agenda for MC14.
The event will:
Assess how current geopolitical and trade realignments are affecting LDC participation in global trade;
Examine the implications of unilateral and bilateral trade initiatives, including reciprocal tariff measures, for LDCs’ market access and policy space;
Discuss practical ways to renew and innovate the LDC trade agenda, especially in services and new thematic areas; and
Facilitate dialogue among policymakers, academics, and private sector representatives to identify actionable recommendations for MC14 and beyond.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have developed a clearer vision of how LDCs can leverage the WTO to safeguard their development interests, strengthen multilateral cooperation, and advance more inclusive trade outcomes in a time of global economic uncertainty.
