Role of Private Sector in Supporting the Implementation of WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement

 

The Meeting of the Global Facilitation Partnership for Transportation and Trade (GFP) will take place in Geneva, Switzerland on 22 April 2015. The meeting is jointly hosted by UNECE, ITC and UNCTAD, and it will take place during the 25th UN/CEFACT Forum.

In response to the World Trade Organization (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) adopted in December 2013 at the Ninth WTO Ministerial in Bali and to the Protocol of Amendment adopted in November 2014, developing countries and LDCs are currently in the process of self-designating all measures of the agreement within a category, either A, B, or C depending on the level of implementation and needs for assistance.

This meeting will bring together representatives of the private sector, WTO Member States and international organizations to discuss how best WTO TFA implementation process can be supported and coordinated by all stakeholders. In particular, participants will discuss how the private sector can contribute to and support the implementation of the Agreement.
