Trade Policy and Sustainable Development Meeting

06 - 08 October 2015
Room XXIV, Palais des Nations
Geneva
, Switzerland

HL-201_small_300x277.jpgThe United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development 2015 held from 25 to 27 September 2015 has set a major milestone in the international community's efforts towards poverty eradication and sustainable development.

International trade, and by implication trade policy, is expected to act as a powerful enabler of the desired transformative shifts to attain the emerging 17 goals and 169 targets under the Sustainable Development Goals.

This has set an important context for the preparation of the Tenth World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference (MC10).

UNCTAD implements a long-standing work programme on trade policy formulation and implementation, and trade negotiations.

Under UN Development Account projects, UNCTAD assists countries in formulating development-oriented coherent and best-fit national trade policy frameworks with a particular emphasis on the imperative of creating productive capacities and employment.

Bring together senior trade and development policymakers, trade negotiators and experts, the Meeting will examine the role of trade policy in reaping developmental benefits from trade in the post-2015 development context.

Experiences gained and lessons learnt from country experiences and UNCTAD's work will be discussed.

The meeting will also reflect upon the interaction of trade policy formulation at national and international levels, with a particular focus on the preparation for the WTO's MC10.
