UNCTAD to present at the African Competition Forum workshop on Agency Effectiveness

The workshop is intended to deepen the skills, as competition agency heads to address various challenges they are facing in regulating competition in their jurisdictions. The sessions are aimed at identifying key elements of well-functioning competition agency and to shaqre best practices for strategic plan development, prioritization and management focusing on results.

The workshop sessions will comprise of a mix of interactive presentations and discussions as well as breakout sessions that will cover the following topics; among others:

• Strategic planning

• Prioritization

• Foundations of an effective competition agency

• Evaluation and Assessment of the effectiveness of competition agencies

• Human resource management

• Results-based management

UNCTAD will attend the conference and present on recommended best practices and knowledge on priority setting for young agencies in order to enforce competition law effectively. The topic of priority setting has been discussed by the UNCTAD IGE during round tables in 2011 and 2012. Several best practices and experiences of both developed and young agencies were compiled in the reports of the IGE and are disseminated through UNCTAD's capacity building activities and peer reviews to interested agencies.
