04 May 2016

  Oman's Invest Easy

"We are incredibly impressed by the progress made by the Oman authorities towards a user-centric governance", said Mr. Joakim Reiter, Deputy Secretary-General of UNCTAD.

The Invest Easy system allows local and foreign investors request and get all the necessary registration certificates online, with a single form, a single set of documents and a single payment.

The Invest Easy system is part of the Omani government's Transformation Program, explained Dr. Salim Al Ruzaiqi, C.E.O of the Information Technology Authority. Sixty-four services, involving 19 government agencies, are already available online.

The challenge is to get government agencies, which traditionally work in isolation, to work together and offer joint services so that users feel that they are dealing with only one administration. "The main obstacle is the mindset, mental barriers. Technique is not a problem", Dr. Al Ruzaiqi added.

Mr. Daniel Carl, US delegate to UNCTAD, congratulated Oman for joining the" top five" countries rated in the Global Enterprise Registration portal.

A joint initiative by UNCTAD, the US Department of State and the Kaufmann Foundation's Global Entrepreneurship Network, Ger.co aims to improve business registration services worldwide and to facilitate the exchange of experience and best practices among governments.
