18 December 2017
The international workshop, jointly organised by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) was held at the Vienna International Centre.
The purpose of this first workshop was to agree on the scope and approaches for a measurement framework for illicit financial flows. This would include estimating illicit financial flows generated by illegal markets and also tax related practices and profit shifting.
From 2018, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will be working in partnership with UN Economic Commission for Africa to continue this work.

Attending the meeting on behalf of UNCTAD were Ms. Stephanie Blankenburg, Head of the Debt, Development and Finance; Mr. Stephen MacFeely, Head of Statistics and Information and Mr. Fernando Cantu-Bazaldua, Senior Statistician.
