Productive capacities are the resources, entrepreneurial capabilities and production links that determine a country's ability to produce goods and services that will help it achieve economic growth.

To chart a new and different development course, UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) designs and delivers a comprehensive programme of research and policy guidance, technical cooperation and targeted capacity-building.

The exhibition will showcase how we help developing countries enhance their productive capacities by supporting productive sectors, tapping comparative advantages and building competitiveness.

We do this by delivering National Productive Capacities Gap Assessments (NPCGAs), which leverage the Productive Capacities Index to support policymakers in measuring and benchmarking their productive capacities. To close the gaps, UNCTAD formulates and implements country-specific, multi-year and multi-sectoral national programmes – holistic productive capacities development programmes – that are key in fostering productive capacities and kick-starting structural economic transformation.

For example, the EU-UNCTAD joint programme for Angola, implemented from 2017 to 2023, trained more than 3,300 individuals from the public and private sectors, supported 15 key policy processes and platforms, and identified and mapped new, green economic sectors to support export diversification.
