Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Financing for Development

IGE on financing for developmentUNCTAD’s Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Financing for Development (IGE FfD) was a core outcome of UNCTAD’s fourteenth Ministerial Conference, held in July 2016 in Nairobi (Kenya), and has since met for three annual sessions, in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

The wider purpose of UNCTAD’s Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Financing for Development (IGE FfD) is to provide an expert forum for discussion and deliberations on the issues, concerns and challenges raised in the Addis Ababa Action Agenda (AAAA).

At UNCTAD XIV, member States agreed a vision for UNCTAD in the implementation and follow-up of the AAAA and Agenda 2030, with a view to strengthening UNCTAD’s role as the focal point within the United Nations for the integrated treatment of trade and development and the interrelated issues of finance, technology, and investment. The IGE FfD is part of this vision and effort. It endeavors to provide an integrated expert perspective on a wide range of development finance issues, that become more urgent in the context of the challenges posed by Agenda 2030 and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
