The CSTD is the United Nations' home for discussions on science and technology - what's new, what matters, what's changing and what the impact is - and how this affects development and a sustainable future for all.

The special event will debate the role of the private sector and, more precisely, the role of start-ups in addressing global development challenges.

It will also discuss how start-ups are contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by designing innovative technological solutions to these challenges.

Discussants:

  • Bertrand Piccard, Chairman of Solar Impulse Foundation

  • Isabelle Durant, Deputy Secretary-General of UNCTAD

  • Shumete Gizaw, Ethiopian State Minister for Science and Technology

An interactive session follows, with six start-ups showcasing their innovative, energy solutions designed to change the way power is delivered in developing nations and across the world.
