ILO/UNCTAD Assessor Training on Women's Entrepreneurship Development and ICTs

09 - 12 April 2013
ILO
Dar es Salaam
, United Republic of Tanzania

The ILO/UNCTAD Assessor Training on Women's Entrepreneurship Development (WED) and ICTs will prepare participants to use ILO's methodology to assess the WED environment, taking into account the role of information and communication technologies (ICTs). The training is co-organized by the ILO-WED Office and the ICT Analysis Section of UNCTAD's Division on Technology and Logistics.

The training workshop is also part of an ILO project promoting women's entrepreneurship development in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda which is funded by Irish Aid.

The training will be preceded from 8-9 April by a number of focus groups of women entrepreneurs to test the ICT component of the WED methodology.

ILO and UNCTAD are partnering to integrate the ICT dimension into assessments of the environment for women's entrepreneurship. The initiative is a follow-up to the Information Economy Report 2011, which focused on the role of ICTs in private sector development and benefits from financial support from Sweden (through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency). UNCTAD was invited to help ensure that the ICT dimension is fully reflected in the revised version of ILO's Guide for assessing the Women's Entrepreneurship Development (WED) environment. The new version will be the first such assessment tool that takes the ICT dimension systematically into account.
