The Commission provides an opportunity for member States and investment and development stakeholders to discuss key and emerging issues in the area of investment and enterprise and their implications for sustainable development, as well as policy solutions. In particular, the Commission will hear a presentation by the secretariat on the latest developments in trends and policies in the area of investment and enterprise.
In accordance with the decision of the Extended Bureau of the Trade and Development Board of 23 September 2016, the Commission will consider the post-session reports of the following expert meetings, and review their outcomes and recommendations:
Multi-Year Expert Meeting on Investment, Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Productive Capacity-building and Sustainable Development (fourth session), which resulted in the refinement and sharing of experience regarding the implementation of the UNCTAD Investment Policy Framework for Sustainable Development, the Entrepreneurship Policy Framework and the Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Framework;
Thirty-second and thirty-third sessions of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on International Standards of Accounting and Reporting, which discussed the key foundations of high-quality reporting and reviewed good practices on enhancing the role of corporate reporting in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals.
In addition, the Commission will examine progress made in the implementation of the mandates received by the secretariat, highlighting areas in which synergies have been achieved among the three pillars of UNCTAD work.
The Commission will be preceded by an Investment Policy Review Day on 15 November 2016, during which the investment policy reviews of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan will be presented at the ministerial level. The presentations will afford policymakers, investment promotion agencies and private sector representatives an opportunity to exchange best practices and share experience.
