The Ministerio Do Comercio E Industria (Ministry of Commerce and Industry) and the E-Commerce and Digital Economy Branch of the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) are organizing the launch of the eTrade Readiness Assessment of Timor-Leste (eTrade Ready) on 5 June 2025.
The assessment emphasizes the government’s dedication to fostering digital transformation. By pinpointing key challenges and opportunities, the assessment lays the groundwork for an effective National E-commerce Strategy that will enhance digital capabilities, foster economy growth and facilitate the country's integration in the regional and global digital landscape. The launch of the eT Ready will bring together representatives of the main stakeholders from the public sector, private sector and civil society as well as development partners.
The eT Ready is the thirty-eighth such assessment conducted by UNCTAD. Funding was provided by the European Union, through the Pacific Digital Economy Programme, which is a joint initiative of UNCTAD, UNDP and UNCDF. Financial support from other core donors to the UNCTAD E-commerce and Digital Economy Programme is also greatly appreciated.
