The second part of the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5.2) is scheduled to take place at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland from 5 to 14 August 2025.
The INC was established following a resolution adopted at the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-5.2) in March 2022 to address plastic pollution comprehensively.
This 2nd session will focus on finalizing an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution. The treaty will address various aspects of plastic pollution, including production, design, trade, waste management, and a just transition. It will also address financial, technical, and capacity-building aspects.
UNCTAD pre-events
UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will hold a series of pre-events on 4 August 2025, preceding the main session.
Registration is mandatory due to limited seating capacities and to be able to access the UN premises.
