The aim is to review and discuss the Sustainable Smart Port Assessment (SSP) report of Port Louis. The intended outcome is to equip stakeholders with a clear roadmap for advancing the port’s energy transition and building long-term capacity for sustainable port development.
UNCTAD conducted the assessment of Port Louis’ SSP performance by applying a comprehensive methodology that examines the port’s capacity to integrate renewable energy and improve energy efficiency. Developed by UNCTAD, this methodology also identifies the main enablers and barriers—political, economic, social, and technological—that influence the port’s ability to become more sustainable and smarter.
Participants will include key stakeholders such as the Mauritius Ports Authority (MPA), Cargo Handling Corporation Limited (CHCL), Central Electricity Board (CEB), Mauritius Renewable Energy Agency (MARENA), Ministry of Finance and shipping companies.
They will review and discuss the main findings and strategic recommendations set out in the Assessment report. They are also expected to discuss the proposed action plan and agree on the next steps required to implement targeted capacity-building activities. These activities are designed to support Port Louis in achieving key priorities identified in its SSP Assessment report.
Ultimately, participants are expected to discuss an action plan that will guide the implementation of key priority actions.
