The workshop aims to present and endorse the Sustainable Smart Port (SSP) Assessment report of Tanger Med. The intended outcome is to advance the port’s energy transition and build long-term capacity for sustainable port development.
UNCTAD conducted the assessment of Tanger Med’ SSP performance by applying a comprehensive methodology that examines the port’s capacity to integrate renewable energy and improve energy efficiency. Developed by UNCTAD, this methodology also identifies the main enablers and barriers—political, economic, social, and technological—that influence the port’s ability to become more sustainable and smarter.
Port stakeholders, government officials and other private sector representatives will review and discuss the main findings and strategic recommendations of the Assessment report. They are also expected to agree on the next steps towards implementing targeted capacity-building activities, to be undertaken after the validation workshop in the afternoon and over the following days.
