The 61st session of the UNCTAD Working Party on the Strategic Framework and the Programme Budget opened today in Geneva. The current session will review the UNCTAD programme narrative for the 2012–2013 biennium and the UNCTAD section of the proposed United Nations Strategic Framework for 2014–2015.
The Working Party is also expected to review the implementation of UNCTAD’s communications strategy and publications policy.
The Working Party is a subsidiary organ of UNCTAD’s Trade and Development Board. It provides intergovernmental oversight of UNCTAD’s programmes, including reviews of UNCTAD’s section of the United Nations Strategic Framework and some key aspects of the programme budget.
In light of the outcome of the UNCTAD XIII conference held in Doha in April this year, the current session of the Working Party from 23 - 25 July will review the list of outputs for the current biennium and the strategic framework for the 2014–2015 biennium.
The Strategic Framework is the principal policy directive of the United Nations, which serves as the basis for programme planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation.
The outcome of the Working Party, after approval by the Trade and Development Board, will constitute a basis for revision of UNCTAD’s programme budget by the UN General Assembly and its subsidiary bodies in New York.
