​Panellists and delegates at the Hearing with Civil Society and the Private Sector stressed that Civil Society's voice cannot be excluded when discussing the current sustainability challenges, financial regulation and its associated issues, and the policies on trade and investment agreements.

Speaking to the Member States, Chair of the National Preparatory Committee for UNCTAD XIII, said the coming quadrennial conference was an opportunity to "truly demonstrate and exercise political will and leadership" in promoting the development of humanity.​

Civil Society participation in policy debate is essential for achieving inclusive and sustainable development. At today's well-attended briefing, UNCTAD representatives shared information on the Civil Society Forum and the Women in Development day, events of the upcoming UNCTAD XIII Conference. ​

A number of United Nations resident coordinators met on 22 February with the United Nations Inter-Agency Cluster on Trade and Productive Capacity to discuss the best methods for using aid to enhance trade and the productive abilities of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. ​

Ahead of the UNCTAD XIII Conference to be held in April 2012, the Secretary-General of UNCTAD highlighted the need for new development pathways that focus on inclusive, development-centred growth. ​

With the implementation of Module 1 of the Modern Port Management course, Namibia joined the English-speaking network of the Programme. Ghana, Malaysia, Maldives, Indonesia and the United Republic of Tanzania are the other members of the network. ​

​Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, has confirmed her attendance at UNCTAD XIII in Doha.

​UNCTAD's Trade and Development Report has over the last three decades often been ahead of the curve in tackling debt and finance issues and predicting impending crises. It has proposed active government action to correct market imbalances.
