Presentation and dissemination of the recommendations of the Voluntary Peer Review on Consumer Protection Law and Policy: Argentina
Argentina has a strong consumer protection system, supported by constitutional recognition of consumer rights, a broad legal framework, and an active network of national, provincial, and municipal institutions. The rapid expansion of digital commerce, informality, and gaps in digital access and literacy pose new challenges: from fraud, deceptive practices, and unsafe products to difficulties obtaining redress, especially for older people and other groups in vulnerable situations.
UNCTAD’s Voluntary Peer Review recognizes the strengths of Argentina’s system and proposes measures to help it respond to an increasingly digital, interconnected, and complex market. Its recommendations include modernizing and consolidating legislation through a Consumer Protection Code; strengthening oversight of digital markets; improving coordination among authorities and across jurisdictions; and expanding consumer education and business compliance initiatives.
A UNCTAD mission to Argentina from November 16 to 18, 2026, will bring together a series of activities with senior policymakers. The mission aims to raise awareness of the importance of consumer protection, present the review’s findings, and promote dialogue on its recommendations and their implementation.
