On 24 August, UNCTAD Trade Logistics Branch, Division on Technology and Logistics, organized an ad hoc expert meeting with invited experts in the area of economic research on the potential impacts of the decarbonization of maritime transport.
The meeting helped UNCTAD learn about recent research and outcomes of impact assessments, including a discussion of similarities and differences between outcomes of the recent work.
The discussion will help UNCTAD take informed decisions on how to approach future comprehensive impact assessments, including possibly in collaboration with the IMO. Issues discussed include time lines, methodologies, economic measures versus technical measures, modal shift, which impacts to include, use of funds from economic measures, et al.
