​In the lead up to UNCTAD XIII, the Wall Street Journal interviewed UNCTAD Secretary-General Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi on his views of the current international economic situation and the ways forward.

The event featured the launch of a new Inter-Agency Working Group on Climate Change Reporting, comprised of UNCTAD, the OECD, the Climate Disclosure Standards Board and the Global Reporting Initiative.​

The 79-member Africa, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States were briefed recently by the Director of UNCTAD's Trade Division, Mr. Guillermo Valles, on the upcoming UNCTAD XIII conference and its topics.​

​H.E. Mr. Alassane Ouattara, President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, assured visiting  UNCTAD Secretary-General Supachai Panitchpakdi that he would endeavour to attend UNCTAD XIII in Doha, Qatar next month.

UNCTAD publication Development and Globalization: Facts and Figures 2012 will be launched at UNCTAD XIII. Presented for the first time in a highly interactive format, the content will be appropriate for specialists and the general public alike.​​

A new UNCTAD publication, sequel to the 1999 Pink Series paper on fair and equitable treatment (FET), analyses the FET clause in international investment agreements (IIAs), drawing on past experiences to assist States in drafting IIA clauses that suit their specific policy objectives and help promote sustainable development.​

"In our globalized world we are in the same boat and we must understand that we will sink or swim together," Dr. Supachai said.​​

His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Emir of Qatar, told visiting UNCTAD Secretary-General Supachai Panitchpakdi that Qatar looks forward to hosting UNCTAD XIII next month when the latter called on him at the Emiri Diwan in Doha on 11 March 2012.​
